As Hilário pointed out on his blog, one of the recent mottos on BEFP classes has been SMART goal setting. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Timely. Let's see what we can tell you regarding timeliness when setting a goal.
Well, for starters, it is fundamental that you are specific enough. Set your goals within well known time frames. By doing so, you are disallowing yourself to procrastinate. This an effective way to build pressure to your advantage.
Of course you must not forget the A in SMART. Plan your time in an achievable way or else you might turn your objectives against you and grow unnecessary pressure and stress. Relax. These are YOUR objectives. Planning requires flexibility.
Also important is to relate with Measurability. Find a way to have your objective reminded to you at a constant pace, so that you can check for the accomplishment of your milestones.
Don't just say "I want to be the richest man on earth". Say "I want to be the richest man on earth, by next tuesday the 29th, 8pm sharp" :-)
